Week 6 - Review
The images shown on this week's lecture help me think about options for decals and the various directions I could go about representing my decayed building. Since my building is based on reinforced concrete I decided to add that to my decay, by exposing the re bars of the church's roof. Quite alot of the content from the slides help contribute through decals applied to the building and effectively helped enhanced the appearance of the decay. During this lecture we also talked about the different roles that people can take up with the knowledge of using designing technology and real - time environments.
Week 5 - Review
This lecture introduced abandonment and was one idea that I was particularly fond of, I thought it was interesting the idea of decay due to isolation, so I tried to focus destruction in that direction, it helped me with texturing my walls of the building and gave me quite a few ideas; especially the photographs that Robert Polidori took. The trailers also set a certain pattern that really helped me when doing my own video for my building.

Detailing in Decay Progress
The way I'm going with modelling my architecture is one with a mix of human destruction along with natural destruction over the years. I'm basing this model on the plot where in a small village, a huge Anti-Christ group had an severe unsolved conflict involving threats and brainwashing. This was with the pastors of the church and resulted in them causing a riot and destroying the church by burning and bombing the building, the terror of this occurrence led to the isolation of the church where all the church-goers left for another village.. The church is located a distance away from the village.

Week 4 - Review
Looking through the different images of construction failure due to natural disasters help provide a perspective on how a building can go through failure and how it comes apart due to an event. The images are powerful and allowed me to take it ideas that could help same destroying my building. The lecture introduced destruction through various reason and methods.

5 Movie Trailers
2012
The plot for this movie is one that shows the destruction of earth/end of the world while society struggles to survive this phenomena. Most of the trailer consists of dark colours such as black and greys suggesting the ominous events that are about to occur. Lots of screen flashes that changes to a different scene. The text descriptions uses a mix of fading and flashing effects that is accompanied with fast-paced and impactful sound effects. Text colour chosen contrasts with the black background. A lot of scenes showing destruction in small and large scales along with close up shots of people in frantic situations.
Into the Storm
Similarly to most disaster films, this trailer consists of dark colours indicating the tragedies that are going to occur in the film. This film particularly uses a siren sound over a black screen for the audience to focus on the audio instead on the visual content on some part of the trailer. The use of a siren provokes audiences and suggest an atmosphere in a state of panic. There is a nice contrast with a calm scene at the start showing sun to the horrendous stormy scene at the end. Contrasting plain text again black background and silence allows focus on text then sudden loud sounds and screams alert viewers. Climatic sound effects keeps audience engaged. contrast with sudden sound and silence prominent throughout trailer.
Contagion
Dakr sounding orchestral music playing at the background. Shows normal people interactions and events. Sliding and fading texts throughout the film with red background. The sound effects of fast heartbeat engages the audience. Impactful swishing sound effects when transitioning into different scenes. Overall audio effects gives of ominous vibes. Choatic situations are shown further in the trailer. Camera pans over isolated areas and filthy streets that shows no signs of abandonment and lack of maintainence. Quick change of scenes, fading in and out.
Transformers 3
Ominous and impactful sound effects. Fading transitional scenes. Rockish background music with s mix of backgorund music. Plain text against black background. Shows scenes of destruction, some slow motion effects. Colour tones throughout is kept simple and clear. The main theme is one of destruction caused by the battle between mechanics and humans; a race to save the earth from invaders. What caught my attention most is the background music and effects. It flows smoothly throughout the trailer.
Aftermath
Fading transitional scenes, yellow text against black background. Eerie sound effects, fast pace beat. Some sort of siren sound that garners attention. Impactful sound effects and most scene transitions. Several fading scene transitions and black screens. Displays scene of abandonment and lack of any human presence. Shaking camera gives off the feeling of panic and desperation of escape. Scene is mostly dark, tones and colours are dark to suit the 'end of the world' theme and atmosphere.

Lecture Review - Week 2
Week 2's lecture gave slight insight into the different materials used in construction and how they are used in buildings. With further research I was able to learn more about material properties and how they are after their decay state.
Material Properties
Concrete has high compression strength but low tensile
strength. It can be damaged by sea water, fire and bacterial, physical or
chemical damages. Overtime concrete structures will crack to some extent due to
shrinkage. It can last approximately 60 years with maintenance. It has a
stone-like consistency and mostly used as hardened building material, it is usually
reinforced with high tensile materials such as steel. Glass is quite resistant to corrosion in
comparison to other materials. It is made by melting sand, soda ash, dolomite,
and limestone. It takes a long time to degrade and one of the substances that
would corrodes glass. It is mostly used as transparent glazing material on a
building’s envelope. With steel the major constituent is iron and depending on
the strength other elements are added. Steel can be hot rolled or cold form.
Small cracks can form of steel after being under pressure for long periods of
time. Steel can last over 25 years with proper protection and usually has corrosion
protection sprayed onto it.

Lecture Review - Week 1
I thought that the different sort of decay shown in the film Life After People really help me think and picture how this would apply to my selected building, I managed to collate several ideas in my brain that will help with the designing how the decaying of the building will look like.
Church of Light Export to Cryengine3
I experimented with the decayed look of what concrete will look like after 100 years since the extinction of humans.

Three Selected Buildings
Church of Light - 1989
Tadao Ando
Church of light is a simple looking building solely constructed from concrete. The cross-shaped void allows light to pass through and illuminates the walls of the church.
Sabarmati Ashram - 1917
Charles Correa
Accommodated mostly by Gandhi, this Ashram is solely constructed using brick and wooden louvered screens with stone floors and ceramic tile roofs.
Brazilian Museum of Sculpture - 1985-88
Paulo Mendes da Rocha
This museum is mostly made up of concrete slabs that integrates with the topography/internal spaces of the building. Besides internal spaces; the roof space is also functional.

Week 5 Reflection
Week 5's lecture was really engaging. I enjoyed and was really fascinated by the amount of different ways one can conceal hidden meanings and things, such as the Fedex logo and the Toblerone . I got a lot of ideas from the lecture slides and did my best in integrating them onto my level, besides the sublime I also show more obvious displays of my combination.
Strategy for Concealing
When it came to concealing the letters 'A' and the number 5 in different scales, I thought a lot more about quantities when it came to the number and positioning for the alphabet. I represented my number through placement of entities such as the storage place and the number of entities in a particular area.
Blending the number and the letter together was another thing I thought would be really engaging and interesting, not only does it serve as elements. I focused on the scale and a little more about integration, and even through thinking about how to work these things around each other was engaging.
For the sublime, with reference to the examples shown during the lecture I was thinking of showing my letter through certain positions, and I thought that was really interesting, it was subtle and it mean you had to really look to find it. For the number it is shown through more obvious methods besides the one in large scale, where you have to look from a plan view to find it. This was quite a fun task to do and I enjoyed thinking of ways to show my combination.

Week 3 Lecture Reflection
Going through the different sort of landscape examples from the different artworks really helped give me an idea of how I can define my island further and provide it much more variety in terms of vegetation and entities. I felt that the landscapes I chose helped me link the spots together as best as I can.

Terrain 1 - 5 Shots
I took the influence of Antelope Canyon as a material texture and how the overall terrain looks.
I had a few problems with the grids that I didn't know how to resolve getting rid of, however for my future terrains I will correct this.
I decided to take my captures during the late afternoon where the sun isn't as bright giving a different effect compared to midday.

5 landscapes
Antelope Canyon, Navajo land
The terrain is void of vegetation and consists of many curves in the slot. The lighting of the canyon can only be gathered from the gap and created interesting shadow effects that continues through the canyon. The above terrain consists mostly of flat land and have very little topographic variation.
Giant's Highway, Northern Ireland
Varying heights however the overall height spreading across the terrain is quite low. Terrain is made up of indvidual placements of cylinder-like rocks that pans across the surrounding sea. Lighting is bright and the colour of the rocks is yellow brown. Little vegetation is located at this specific area.
Grand Canyon, Arizona USA
Top of Topography is flat and over all there are varying heights that spread across the terrain. the environments consists a mix of vegetation and rock/sand. Having a spread of natural colours that varies from green to brown.
SIngapore CBD, Singapore
Varying heights of building that makes up for the flat topography of the land. Lighting is spread throughout the whole area. Vegetation is located on some parts of the area.
The Wave, Arizona
Smooth varying heights for the terrain, with slightly uneven surface at the top of the topography. bright and light colors such as brown, orange and white for it's surface. No visible vegetation.
